ETH and SOL Daily Crypto Analyst, 5 October 2026: Both Range-Bound, Flows Diverge
Executive Summary
Both assets are consolidating, not trending, as of the morning of 5 October 2026. ETH trades near $2,716 in a 24-hour range of $2,692 to $2,737, and SOL near $120.20 after a session range of $119.08 to $122.10. My read is a neutral-to-mildly-bullish bias for both, with SOL carrying more event risk and more upside. Neither has confirmed a breakout.
The tension is in money flows. Spot Ether ETFs lost $138 million last week after taking in $690 million the week before. Spot Solana ETFs took in only $2.43 million, down from a record $188.22 million, a fall of about 98.7%. Meanwhile Bitcoin ETFs drew $241.1 million, so capital is staying in crypto but moving toward the largest asset.
Two scheduled events set the next few days. The Glamsterdam upgrade activates on the Sepolia testnet on 6 October, and the Federal Reserve releases its September meeting minutes on 7 October at 2:00 PM Eastern. Macro is a mild headwind: ISM services prices paid rose to 74.0, the highest since July 2022. This is educational analysis, not financial advice. Many sources below are aggregator and forecast sites, so treat their price targets as opinion.
Snapshot: ETH and SOL side by side

| Market cap | $331.68B | $70.7B | same as above |
| 24h volume | about $9.41B | roughly $2B | same as above |
| Circulating supply | about 122.108M (no fixed cap) | 588.31M (93% of total) | same as above |

Prices differ slightly by venue and time of capture. Other captures the same day show ETH at $2,727.07 at 07:04 UTC, and a live ticker on the Cointelegraph page showed SOL at $121.41 (undated widget), so treat all spot figures as roughly plus or minus 0.5%. Cross-rates: one SOL buys 0.044 ETH, and ETH trades at 0.03164 BTC.
ETH: trend is up, but ETF money is leaving and books are thin
Technical structure. ETH sits in an uptrend on the hourly, four-hour and daily charts, above its 200-day exponential average with a 14-day RSI of 64. The same source lists a daily pivot at 2,717.26, previous-day high at 2,739 and previous-day low at 2,686.11. Its 20-day range runs from 2,356.82 to 2,807.10. Levels computed from pivots are mechanical, not a view on fundamentals.
| Level | Price | Role | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| R3 / R2 / R1 | $2,801 / $2,770 / $2,748 | Resistance (pivot-based); 20-day high is $2,807 | ForexR |
| Daily pivot | $2,717 | Pivot; below it weakens the bullish read | ForexR |
| S1 / S2 / S3 | $2,696 / $2,664 / $2,643 | Support (pivot-based) | ForexR |
Flows. Four straight sessions of net outflows from 29 September to 2 October sum to about $155.12 million. The funds still hold about $13.80 billion of cumulative net inflows and $17.46 billion of net assets. The $155M (four sessions) and $138M (calendar week) figures cover different windows and come from different write-ups of the same SoSoValue data, so they are not a conflict. Corporate treasuries add a counterweight: CoinGecko lists 8,014,656 ETH held by companies and other entities.
Liquidity and leverage. CoinGecko's report puts ETH order-book depth within 0.15% of mid-price at about $13 to $14 million on eight major exchanges, or roughly 35% to 45% of Bitcoin's, versus at least 60% a year earlier. Perpetual futures open interest is about $46.94 billion. Thin books plus large leverage means a break of either range edge can run further than the size of the order flow would suggest (my inference).
Network and catalysts. Glamsterdam adds enshrined proposer-builder separation and block-level access lists. Its Sepolia activation is on 6 October, while Hoodi testnet and mainnet dates have not been decided. A testnet date is not a mainnet date, so I would not treat it as a price catalyst on its own. Separately, headlines cite a 25-day wait for new stakers, which suggests demand to lock up supply. I could not open a primary staking dashboard, so that figure is second-hand.
KEY TAKEAWAY: ETH is holding $2,700 on a technical uptrend, but four sessions of ETF outflows and thinner order books argue against chasing it above $2,750 before a close above that level.
SOL: strong usage and trend, weak institutional bid
Technical structure. SOL gained 59% in the third quarter and 14.6% in September. It has been stuck near $120, about 4% below the $124.62 to $125 resistance that rejected the September rally. One source puts the 20-day average at $114.43 and the rising-channel top near $135. Another places the 50-, 100- and 200-period averages near $119.24, $116.43 and $110.44 on its chart settings, so averages differ by method. The two sources agree on the main levels: support around $117 to $119, resistance near $123 then $125, and a first upside target in the low-to-mid $130s.
| Level | Price | Role | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Breakout trigger | $125 daily close | Trend resumes; targets $135 then $148 | TradingNEWS |
| Alternate upside target | $132.87 | Fibonacci projection, conditional on breaking $123 and $124.95 | Invezz |
| Near support | $118.71 to $119.25 | Trendline, Fibonacci and 50-period average cluster | Invezz |
| Trend line in the sand | $114.43 | 20-day average; close below breaks bullish structure | TradingNEWS |
| Channel floor | $108 to $109 | Below this the outlook turns bearish | TradingNEWS |
Usage. On 3 October, Solana processed $3.06 billion of spot DEX volume, more than Ethereum mainnet, Ethereum layer-2s and Hyperliquid combined. Invezz notes the comparison is a single day and does not establish a lasting lead. Tokenized-stock trading hit a record $4.4 billion in September. TradingNEWS ranks Solana third among chains for tokenized assets and stablecoins with $18.2 billion, a 5.2% share, against Ethereum's 53.2%. TVL remains near $5.9 billion, well under the August 2025 peak of $11.4 billion, so activity has recovered faster than capital.
ETF demand. The 14-week inflow streak is intact, with cumulative net inflows of $1.61 billion and net assets of $1.9 billion. But one product holds about $1.2 billion of the $1.6 billion lifetime flows (about 76%), a concentration risk. The record $188.22 million week coincided with the price high near $125, and TradingNEWS offers two readings: a quarter-end pause, or chasers now underwater.
Alpenglow. The consensus upgrade targets finality of 100 to 150 milliseconds versus roughly 12.8 seconds today. It is running on public testnet, mainnet is tied to an October validator release, and no date or block height is confirmed. That is both the main catalyst and the main event risk, given Solana's outages in 2022 and early 2024.
KEY TAKEAWAY: SOL has the better trend and usage story, ETH has the deeper holder base; SOL's case depends on holding $114 to $117 and on a confirmed Alpenglow date.
Macro and sentiment: the backdrop is neutral to slightly negative
Sentiment. The Fear & Greed Index held in "Greed" at 70, down from 74. That is warm but cooling. Bitcoin trades near $86,200, up 3.7% over seven days, and has failed for a fifth time at the $87,000 to $87,400 band. Both ETH and SOL have followed Bitcoin's range, so a Bitcoin break either way is the biggest swing factor for both.
Rates. Per TradingNEWS, markets price about an 80% chance the Fed holds on 28 October, with the 10-year yield near 5.28%. Higher yields reduce appetite for speculative assets, and SOL has a higher beta than ETH or Bitcoin (inference from the source's description of Solana's beta). Note that ForexR's pre-release figures (ISM services prices-paid previous 72.6) and TradingNEWS's post-release 74.0 are different data points, not a conflict.
Regulation. TradingNEWS says the failure of market-structure legislation in the Senate last month kept some institutions on the sidelines for assets other than Bitcoin.
Risks, outlook and what to watch
Risk flags.
- Liquidity: ETH depth is 35% to 45% of Bitcoin's, and SOL's book is thinner further from the price per TradingNEWS.
- Concentration: SOL ETF flows depend on one product (about 76% of lifetime inflows, above).
- Event risk: Alpenglow slippage or a consensus incident; Fed minutes on 7 October.
- Data quality: Several figures come from algorithmic or aggregator sites. I found no wash-trading or manipulation evidence, but I did not run a forensic check, so absence of evidence is not proof.
Scenarios, 24 hours to 7 days (my synthesis, medium-low confidence).
| Asset | Base case | Bullish trigger | Bearish trigger |
|---|---|---|---|
| ETH | Range $2,665 to $2,770 | Daily close above $2,770, then $2,801 | Close below $2,665 toward $2,643, more likely if outflows continue |
| SOL | Range $114 to $125 | Daily close above $125 with strong volume; $135 next | Daily close below $114.43; then $108 |
Position sizing should be small relative to portfolio risk. SOL has seen daily moves of 4% to 9% in September, so its position should be smaller than a similar-conviction ETH position. This is not advice.
What would change my view. A fifth straight day of ETH ETF outflows after the Glamsterdam date, or the first negative weekly Solana ETF print since June, would tilt both toward the bearish case. A confirmed Alpenglow mainnet date or a Bitcoin close above $87,400 would favour the bullish case.
Gaps in this edition. I did not obtain primary on-chain data (active addresses, exchange reserves, whale flows, funding rates, validator metrics) or CME gap information. ETH tokenomics beyond circulating supply and ETH TVL or L2 figures are also not covered. Treat those sections of the standard methodology as open.
