01Eurostat · Oct 2German HICP energy jumps to 13.4% y/y in September
Series: HICP, Energy (NRG), Germany, Eurostat dataset prc_hicp_minr, index 2025=100 and annual rate of change, not seasonally adjusted. Latest: index 112.47, Sep 2026, flash/estimated. Prior (Aug 2026): 108.74. Change: +3.4% m/m (computed from the two index values; Eurostat reports 3.4%). Year-on-year: +13.4% (Eurostat annual rate; Sep 2025 index 99.22 gives the same 13.4%). Released Oct 2, 2026. Flag: Sep 2026 is estimated; full September data is scheduled for Oct 16. Note: since Jan 2026 HICP uses ECOICOP ver. 2 and a 2025=100 base, so older-base series are not directly comparable. Cross-check: the euro-area energy rate is 18.8% in Sep (14.3% in Aug), and Destatis' national CPI household energy and fuels is +14.9% (a different measure).
Chart data, annual rate % (Sep 25 to Sep 26): -0.7, -0.9, -0.1, -1.3, -1.9, -2.2, 6.3, 8.9, 5.5, 2.7, 7.3, 9.4, 13.4. Shape: slightly negative through winter, a step up in March, then a sharp acceleration since June.
For your plan: the energy rate has risen four of the last five months, so site power, fuel and heating line items deserve a fresh look against the current budget.
02Destatis · Jul 10Residential building prices up 5.0% y/y in May, up 2.4% in a quarter
Series: Destatis construction price index, new conventionally built residential buildings, Germany, including VAT, quarterly. Latest: May 2026, +5.0% y/y; +2.4% vs Feb 2026 (Destatis-reported rates). Prior reference month (Feb 2026): +3.3% y/y. Released Jul 10, 2026 (a corrected version of the same day's release fixed a year typo). Raw index levels were not retrieved, so the percentages are as published, not recomputed. Components, y/y: structural work +4.9%, finishing work +5.1%, concrete work +3.6%, masonry +3.8%, roofing and carpentry +7.3%, heating systems +5.0%, maintenance work +5.6%.
Chart data (y/y %): Feb 2026 3.3, May 2026 5.0. Only these two points were confirmed from the primary release, so no longer trend is shown. Shape: acceleration. The August 2026 reading is not out yet; the series publishes quarterly and I could not confirm its release date.
For your plan: a 5.0% annual rise, with 2.4% in the last quarter alone, suggests any contractor price fixed before May may be below current market levels.
03EUROMETAL/Kallanish · Sep 18German rebar mills push base price toward €420/t
Series: German rebar base price, EUR per tonne, ex-works, excluding the customary size extra (about €265/t). No official index was found; this is secondhand trade-press reporting (Kallanish via EUROMETAL), not a published benchmark. Latest: at least two mills asked €420/t (Sep 18, 2026); buyers said €400 was no longer obtainable. Prior (Sep 1 report): base prices around €400/t, with €380/t quoted by large benders and in southern Germany. Change: +5.0% from €400 to €420 (computed, asking price versus a prior market level, not a transaction). Year-on-year: not confirmed. Delivered example: a 10,000 t Hanover project at €680/t; mills would charge €685/t delivered if €420 base holds. Italian domestic offers were €440/t, which one buyer disputed.
Chart data: only two points, Sep 1 about 400 (range 380 to 400), Sep 18 ask 420. Shape: stabilised after a July to August dip below €400, now a mill-led attempt to lift prices against weak demand. No later confirmed transaction price was found.
For your plan: base €420 plus the €265 size extra implies about €685/t delivered, but this is an ask in weak demand, so treat it as an upper marker.
