Owned Item Watch: 2022 Tesla Model 3 Long Range

Canada's Tesla headlight recall still awaits a fix for 2022 Model 3

Market: Canada. No new Transport Canada recall for the 2022 Model 3 turned up this week, so the open headlight recall (filed Aug 19) leads, followed by Tesla's 2026.38 rollout and dated used-listing prices.

The 30-second version
  1. Transport Canada recall 2026401 covers 2022 Model 3 low-beam glare; Tesla says the remedy is still under development.
  2. Tesla's 2026.38 update began rolling out Sep 30 to HW3 cars, reaching under 1% of the fleet (Tesla Oracle).
  3. Canadian dealer asking prices for 2022 Model 3 Long Range listings were trimmed in September (AutoDeal Canada).

Transport Canada: low-beam headlights may be too bright on 2022 Model 3

Transport Canada recall 2026401 (published Aug 19, last updated Aug 25, 2026) says low-beam headlights on certain vehicles may exceed Canada's maximum brightness, which could reduce driver visibility and cause glare for oncoming drivers. The notice lists 2018–2022 Model 3 (plus 2020–2023 Model Y), but only 'certain' vehicles within those years are affected, so not every 2022 Model 3 is covered. It is older than the 30-day lookback but is the only open safety notice found, and Transport Canada states the corrective action is still under development; Tesla will notify owners by email.

The related US filing (NHTSA 26V507, submitted Aug 4, 2026) cites Marelli-supplied headlamp assemblies and lists 20,349 potentially involved US vehicles; Tesla planned remedy-owner notification for Sep 15, 2026. Those figures are US-only and do not state the Canadian count. To check a specific car, use Transport Canada's Motor Vehicle Safety Recalls Database or Tesla's recall search.

For owners: check your car in Transport Canada's recall database or Tesla's recall lookup, and watch your email for Tesla's notice.

Tesla 2026.38 starts rolling out to HW3 cars, adds headlight leveling

Tesla Oracle reports 2026.38 began rolling out Sep 30 to HW3 cars globally, in a limited rollout: TeslaFi and Tessie data showed under 1% of the fleet had it as of Oct 1. Release notes quoted by the outlet list sharper on-screen car visuals, Dynamic Headlight Leveling for legacy Model 3 and Model Y low beams, and security fixes. The sharper visuals reach only HW3 cars with the AMD Ryzen processor, not Intel Atom cars.

Tesla Oracle's tie between the headlight feature and recall 26V507 is its own inference; it adds that the update cannot fully remedy the recall and that a physical fix is needed for many cars. Neither Transport Canada nor Tesla's notes link the two. Canada-specific rollout timing was not found.

For owners: expect 2026.38 gradually; don't treat it as the recall remedy until Tesla or Transport Canada says so.

Dealer asking prices for used 2022 Model 3 Long Range dipped in September

AutoDeal Canada listing history shows a 2022 Model 3 Long Range (69,800 km, Pitt Meadows, BC) cut from C$38,745 on Aug 26 to C$38,138 on Sep 23, 2026. A Long Range Dual listing (115,425 km, Saint-Hubert, QC) moved from C$31,988 on Sep 19 to C$31,888 on Sep 22, 2026. These are single dealer asking prices in CAD, not valuation-guide values.

The BC page's own comparison set (13 vehicles) showed an average of C$32,778 and a range of C$28,449–C$38,995; the page does not say how the set was chosen. Dealer ads vary by mileage and province, so don't compare them directly.

For owners and shoppers: treat these as two dated asking-price data points, not a market average; check current local listings.

Cheaper China-built new Model 3 in Canada adds pressure on used values

The Autopian (Oct 5, 2026) reports a new rear-wheel-drive Model 3 Premium in Canada at C$41,990 including freight, built in China under a 6.1% tariff quota, with a smaller battery than the US version. It says the federal C$5,000 instant rebate applies only to vehicles not made in China.

Financial Post/Bloomberg (Oct 2) cites a DesRosiers report of strong Q3 Canadian Model 3 sales and says some trims are priced 25% lower than in the US. No source in this run measured the effect on used 2022 values.

For shoppers: new-Model 3 pricing in Canada is a dated reference point; no source here quantifies its effect on used values.

Watch for Tesla's email and a Transport Canada update on the recall 2026401 remedy, which was still 'under development' as of the Aug 25 update.
