Plans and billing

How billing works

Grep reserves credits when a task starts, then charges what the task actually used.

Step 1

What a task reserves

A minimum hold, taken when you press RUN.

One credit is $0.20. When you press RUN, Grep holds a minimum amount based on the effort level you chose, so the task can start without waiting on a price calculation.

EffortReserved at startIn dollars
Low Effort2 credits$0.40
Medium Effort20 credits$4.00
High Effort100 credits$20.00

Step 2

What you are actually charged

The hold is settled against real usage when the task finishes.

When a task completes, Grep works out what it really cost in tokens and settles the hold. Cheaper than the hold and the difference comes back; more expensive and the difference is charged.

Step 3

Minimums, failures and cancellations

The small print that explains a charge you did not expect.

  • A completed task costs at least 1 credit ($0.20), however little work it did. That covers running and storing the result.
  • A task that fails before completing is refunded in full — credits or wallet.
  • A task you cancel mid-run may still cost something, depending on how much work was already done.
  • Subscription credits do not roll over: Pro and Ultra reset each billing period. A wallet balance is separate and expires 365 days after deposit.

Step 4

Where to see what you were charged

Settings, then Billing.

Open Settings and choose BILLING — "Track your costs and usage, manage your plan, and add funds". ACTIVITY comes first: Credit Usage lists what each research job cost. Once you have paid for something, an INVOICES section below it lists subscription charges and credit purchases.

  • Check the reservation taken when the task started.
  • Check anything returned or added after it finished.
  • Read the net figure — that is what the task really cost.
